THE PIRAIBA
Piraiba catfish is a member of the family Pimelodidae.This huge catfish is occasionally called goliath catfish. Piraiba is found in the Amazon and Orinoco Rivers, and other tropical freshwater and brackish habitats in South America. Seems that this catfish is a migratory. Piraiba can grow up to 550 pound - 250 kilo. It is mainly caught with dead or live bait on the bottom.

The freshwater fish called Piraíba is popularly known as "Filhote" (puppy).
Scientific name:
Brachyplatystoma filamentosum.
Geographic distribution:
Your species is distributed in the Amazon and Tocantins-Araguaia basins.
Habitat:
The Piraíba dwells deep gutters of large rivers.
Feeding:
It is a carnivorous fish, with fish-eating trends, catching other fish.
Reproduction:
Performs Piracema. It is able to migrate 2500 miles (4000 km) to find the ideal place to launch their eggs.

The Mythic Catfish
The Giant Piraiba Catfish or Filhote which can reach upwards of 400lbs. This one here was as tall as I am, almost 6ft long and it almost sunk the fishing boat while trying to get it on board. It's one of the fish that legends come from where giant catfish eat natives and they are never seen again. This one could very well grab a small child's head, arm or leg and drag it to its death and never to be seen again.
